Have the prettiest, sparkliest table in all the land with these fun & festive placemats! Sandwich colorful confetti between layers of clear vinyl to enjoy all the magic (without all the mess 😉 )

A few weeks ago Abby from Beijos Events came to me with the idea of creating some confetti-filled placemats for a photo shoot, and we decided it would be fun to take my confetti bookmark concept and use in in a larger placemat format —  I have to say I'm obsessed with how they turned out!

They add just the right amount of pizzaz to your table while keeping things contained and mess-free. (And you can even wipe them off if they get dirty!) They can be re-used again and again, and just imagine all the different color/style possibilities!

Here's how to make your own:

You will need:

  • Clear vinyl (I personally like 4 gauge) - Something like this will work, or you could even get a little crafty and re-purpose a clear tablecloth protector.

  • Sewing machine / thread

  • Scissors

  • Confetti!

Start by cutting your vinyl into smaller pieces, a little larger than 14"x18" rectangles. (This will give you some room to work while sewing)

Put two pieces of vinyl together and trace a 14"x18" rectangle in the center. (Creating a cardboard template is helpful for this!)

Then sew down three sides of the traced rectangle, leaving one of the shorter sides open. (You can trim the excess vinyl from the sewn sides.) Have fun with different colored threads and styles of stitching!

Next add your confetti inside the "pocket" you've created. While how much confetti you add comes down to personal preference as to how full you like it, I found about 1 cup of confetti per 14"x18" placemat was a good amount to have some clear space, 2 cups if you want it really filled out.

Once filled with your desired amount of confetti, sew the last side closed and trim any excess vinyl from the edge.

While I could see these being used for just about any holiday or season by changing up the confetti inside, I think New Year's Eve is a PERFECT occasion to use these beauties.

As I mentioned earlier, Beijos Events (along with a team of amazing vendors) put together a girly, sparkly NYE party using custom made confetti placemats as part of the table decor:
